Hurricane Milton pounds Florida, 10 dead, millions without power

The storm struck Florida on Wednesday night, carrying winds of up to 205 kph. Sure, a hurricane has its turbulence, but this was far from the kind of Category-5 hurricane that had menaced the state only to veer over the Gulf of Mexico.

It has caused damage and mass power cuts in Florida also and has already caused deaths.

It still hit the US West Coast on Thursday. Although the Tampa Bay Metropolitan area was not flooded, as experts had predicted, there have been mass power cuts, with over 3 million customers without electricity.

The category-3 storm also killed four people in St. Lucie County and spawned tornadoes that damaged many homes.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said water levels in the city remained low compared to the two weeks prior when Hurricane Helene reached the state.

The storm reached Florida last night, bringing winds as fast as 205 kph. Even though the hurricane brought its share of chaos, it was nowhere near a Category-5 hurricane that had threatened the state but went over the Gulf of Mexico.
