More than 25 soldiers of Israeli Navy Commandos claimed to have conducted a landing operation on the coast of Batroun in northern Lebanon.
They kidnapped Imad Amhaz, a senior member of the naval force of Hezbollah, on November 2. The Israeli commandos had arrived and left in speedboats.
It is said to have been carried out in coordination with the German Navy operating within the UNIFIL forces so that the Lebanese Navy should not intervene during the operation.
According to the local media, on Saturday, a particular unit landed on Al-Batroun beach in north Lebanon and, after entering a nearby cabin, kidnapped the alleged senior Hezbollah figure from its naval unit.
He was then taken to a boat and transferred to, according to Al-Hadath channel. Hezbollah denounced the Israeli moves in Batroun but did not confirm Amhaz to be one of their operatives.
However, Ali Hamie, the Lebanese minister of public works and transport, told the local media that Amhaz was just a captain of civilian ships and a student at a civilian naval institute.
Besides the capture of Amhaz, Shayetet 13 were also sent into southern Lebanon on a mission to raid an underground Hezbollah complex entire of weaponry.
On the same day Amhaz’s arrest was announced, the Israeli military reported to have killed a senior Hezbollah commander, Abu Ali Rida.
The IDF accused him of overseeing rocket and anti-tank missile attacks against its forces in southern Lebanon. The military did not announce the date of his killing.
