IDF kills 5 Palestinian militants, including notable commander

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Thursday (Aug 29) that the death of five more rebels was reported in another large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank on the second day of ‘counter-terrorism’ operations that claimed 14 lives.

After fire exchanges, the forces cleared five terrorists, who had entered a mosque in Tulkarem,” the military said, having killed nine militants in several West Bank cities a day earlier.

The IDF said that according to its information, another well-known local commander named Mohammed Jaber, Abu Shujja, who was a member of the Islamic Jihad militant group, was also killed in the operation.

For instance, Shujja was accused of financing attacks on Israelis, which included a shooting rampage in June. As per the news report, he was to launch more operations, yet the Israeli forces purported to have eliminated him.

“The leader of the Tulkarem Brigade of the Al Quds Brigades, Abu Shujaa, and other brothers in his brigade were martyred after an epic fight against the soldiers of the (Israeli) aggression,” the group said in a statement.

Some media houses had reported that Shujja was killed earlier this year, but he was recently seen at the funeral of one of the militants, where he was taken over the heads by the mob in a heroic manner.

Gaza and the West Bank are two Palestinian territories, while Gaza Strip is separate from the West Bank by the Israeli territory, which forced attacks to begin soon after the war erupted in October last year. A Palestinian death toll estimate given by the UN says that as many as 637 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces and settlers since the onset of the war against Hamas.
