The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, virtually appeared before the Supreme Court for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments case. The case is a constitutional petition against the constitutionality of the nullified NAB amendments and is being heard by a seven-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
Khan had applied for in-person attendance, but the court allowed him to submit his arguments through video conference. The hearing was not live-streamed, and the decision on future broadcasting is still pending. Khan’s lawyers came to see him in jail before the case.
This was when he came out in public for the first time after almost 12 months. Makhdoom Ali Khan, the government lawyer, started to present his view, and the court requested a decision from the High Court of Islamabad. The case is a landmark for Pakistani politics and may have wider ramifications for cases of corruption in the country, such as Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari.
