Imran Khan charged by FIA for inciting mutiny through social media posts

FIA registers case against Imran Khan over social media posts.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against PTI chairman Imran Khan for allegedly inciting officials through social media posts.

An FIA team visited the Adiala Jail to question Khan regarding a controversial post on his Twitter handle. However, he refused to join the interrogation without his lawyers.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had stated FIA will probe the handling of Khan’s social media accounts used to “create chaos” and undermine national security.

The agency will determine if such posts were made on Khan’s instructions or someone else. Tarar termed the attempts to conspire against top judges and institutions as “highly condemnable”.

In his post, Khan drew parallels to the 1971 war events and accused one individual of putting the country at stake to retain power, in an apparent reference to the army chief.

He warned the same story is being repeated with one person taking control to strengthen their grip on power. Only the Supreme Court remained somewhat independent of their influence, Khan added.

Often critical of the establishment through social media, Khan has been detained at Adiala Jail since last year in different cases.
