Pakistan ex-premier Imran Khan has been in jail since he was arrested on August 5, 2023. Pakistan’s ex-premier Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, was being held in solitary confinement in a death cell inside the high-security Adiala prison in Rawalpindi, his party alleged on Monday.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf: Party’s Central Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, made the allegations during a press conference. Imran Khan has been imprisoned in a death cell; he has been imprisoned in solitary confinement,” he alleged. “Khan was imprisoned in the death cell as the undertrial prisoner before his conviction.” He also alleged that the cell in which Khan was imprisoned was reserved for terrorists.
It was shameful that the former prime minister was treated in such a manner with the sole objective of shattering his will, he further added. Akram asserted that Khan’s determination was firm despite the odds. He also added that Khan had been refused visitors, including political supporters and members of his family, in defiance of the law, which made him eligible to see lawyers and close relatives.
He also asserted that, despite a court order allowing six individuals to visit Khan, the authorities had not allowed the visits to occur. The court’s orders are being flouted. Even Imran Khan’s wife has been refused meetings with him twice, and no reason is being offered,” Akram stated.
He added that the party had lodged a contempt of court petition, but the meetings were not being granted. He also pointed out that Khan’s medical consultations with his physician have been refused, raising questions about his health.
Further, PTI leaders have also complained that Khan’s newspapers and books were being withheld by the jail authorities. Akram’s allegations could not be confirmed. Khan has been in custody since he was taken into custody on August 5, 2023.
