China confirms resolution with India on eastern Ladakh border issue.
China on Tuesday validated reports of reaching an agreement with India to defuse tensions along their disputed border in eastern Ladakh.
Addressing a press meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing and New Delhi have resolved “relevant matters” through diplomatic and military negotiations recently.
“China speaks highly of this and will work with India to implement these resolutions,” the spokesperson mentioned.
The statement comes a day after India announced all patrolling protocols in the region have been restored following four years of military standoff.
Contact between the nuclear-armed neighbors soured in 2020 after clashes in Galwan Valley left casualties on both sides.
Last month, India’s National Security Advisor and Chinese Foreign Minister met in Russia covering the need for an early resolution.
On a possible meeting between PM Modi and President Xi during the BRICS summit, China said updates will be shared if required.
With disengagement achieved, Indian and Chinese soldiers can resume patrolling patterns along the Line of Actual Control as before the escalations began.
The confirmation provides much-needed clarity on progress made towards concluding the prolonged border dispute.
