Indian-origin man shot dead in Canada, 4 arrested for murder.
A 28-year-old Indian youth was gunned down outside his residence in Surrey, Canada in an alleged targeted shooting. Yuvraj Goyal, who had emigrated from Punjab in 2019, succumbed to bullet injuries sustained on June 7.
The Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police recovered Goyal’s body after receiving reports of firing at his home that morning. He had recently obtained permanent residency after working as an executive in the city.
Coming back from the gym, the deceased had briefly spoken to his mother in India moments before the incident, his brother-in-law recounted in shock.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took charge of the probe and identified four suspects within days. Manvir Basram, Sahib Basra, and Harkirat Jhutty – all Surrey residents, and Keilon Francois from Ontario were subsequently charged with first-degree murder on June 8.
Investigators want to ascertain the motive behind the seemingly targeted attack, even as initial evidence points in that direction. Surrey RCMP stated that Goyal maintained a clean record.
Authorities will continue working closely with various forensics and crime units to gather more evidence and fast-track the case. The brutal killing has sent shockwaves within the Indian community in Canada while the family demands justice.
