IndiGo passengers were stuck in Istanbul after flights to Delhi and Mumbai delayed New Delhi: IndiGo is flying two planes into Istanbul to ferry back its stranded passengers who were meant to fly into Delhi. A technical hitch forced the low-cost carrier to cancel Friday’s flight from Istanbul to Delhi.
Hundreds of IndiGo passengers remained stuck at Istanbul airport on Thursday after delayed flights to Delhi and Mumbai. The passengers were stranded for more than 24 hours, and most took to social media complaining about the delays and lack of facilities.
IndiGo said on Friday evening that all necessary steps were taken to ensure customers were apprised and provided with refreshments and accommodation, where possible.
On Saturday, IndiGo said that its flight 6E 12, which was coming in from Istanbul to Delhi, had been canceled due to a technical problem.
The airline has two daily flights to Istanbul. Both are operated with leased Boeing 777 aircraft: one from Delhi and another from Mumbai.
“Alternative aircraft have been arranged to transport passengers to their destination. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate their understanding in this matter,” the airline said in a statement on Saturday.
A source in the know says the airline will be sending two A321 planes to Istanbul to transport passengers. We could not immediately obtain the details of the number of passengers booked on the canceled flight on Friday.
