Iran accuses Israel of mass murder after Hezbollah explosions

Iran has criticized Israel over what it termed as mass murder despite a series of explosions that affected paging devices used by the Hezbollah group in Lebanon. They believed it caused the death of 11 people, and more than 3,900 people were severely affected.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani called it a “terrorist act” by the Israeli regime on Wednesday in his statement. This happened after Hezbollah pledged to take revenge for the deadly attack in which hundreds of the group’s devices exploded nearly at the same time in Lebanon.

Israel has not said anything regarding the explosions, and Kanani condoled with the Lebanese government and people while offering any assistance required to the Lebanese in the wake of the disaster. The blasts also claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl who was the daughter of a Hezbollah supporter.

The event happened at the time when Israel declared an enlargement of its strike targets in Gaza in response to Hamas’s attacks on October 7. The Israeli government stated that its operations would now focus on Hezbollah along the border of Lebanon.

Accordingly, Hezbollah protested, saying,

“We hold the Israeli enemy fully responsible for this criminal aggression; the Israeli enemy must know it will pay a just punishment for this escalation. ”

The group restated its support for Gaza and pledged retaliation for the recent blasts.

Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firass Abiad, said that at least 200 people were left with severe injuries from the blasts. Some of the bodies were identified while the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among the injured, having lost an eye and suffered serious injuries from a pager that exploded in his hands.

It was assumed earlier that although Amani was sick, he would recover soon; however, later, it turned out that Amani’s condition was much worse and required transportation to Tehran for further medical treatment.

It is believed that the explosions were not solely a result of the lithium-ion batteries’ failure. People think that a small plastic explosive was also concealed along with the battery, and its detonation was possibly done through calls or pages. He pointed out that Israel’s Mossad had penetrated into the chain of supply to engage in the act.
