Iran accuses Israel of sabotaging nuclear talks with US

Israel renews call for Iran’s nuclear program to be dismantled after Tehran and Washington announce successful third round. Iran has accused Israel of “brazenly” attempting to sabotage talks as negotiations with the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear program seem to be going well.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was “dictating what [US] President [Donald] Trump can and cannot do in his diplomacy with Iran”. In response to a third round of talks between the US and Iran that seemed to gain momentum in Oman over the weekend, Netanyahu repeated calls for Iran’s nuclear program to be removed in its entirety.

The talks are aimed at preventing Iran from using its nuclear program to make weapons. In return, Tehran would get an easing of international sanctions. A top US official said “further progress” was reported over the weekend, the Reuters news agency reports.

But the negotiations have alerted Israel. Netanyahu insisted late on Sunday that any “good deal” to be produced by the talks would have to eliminate “all of [Iran’s nuclear] infrastructure.”. The Israeli Prime Minister, who has declined to rule out an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, stated that he had explained to Trump that any nuclear deal with Iran must also bar Tehran from acquiring ballistic missiles.

Trump, who has threatened military action against Iran on multiple occasions, told an interview published on Friday that he believed a deal would occur. He went on to say that while Netanyahu could “go into a war”, the US was “not getting dragged in”.
