Russia-Ukraine War: The allegation was made by the European Union on Monday (Sep. 9) stating that Iran has provided ballistic missiles to Russia based on intelligence reports from its allies, and here’s what the Kremlin has said.
When questioned on the said allegations, Moscow did not refute the same but rather chose to speak on the developing friendly relations with Tehran.
We have seen this report; it is not every time that this kind of information is true, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Iran is our important partner; we are improving our cooperation, trade, and economic relations with Iran; we are improving our dialog in all fields, including the most critical fields.”
That’s the response that the EU gave:
The European Union said that it’s willing to impose new sanctions on Tehran if it was established that Russia received the said weapons for its war against Ukraine.
For instance, in response to the question regarding credible intelligence of allies of the delivery of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia, EU spokesman Peter Stano stated this.
“We are investigating it more with our member states, and if so, this delivery would be a significant, tangible increase in Iran’s support for Russia’s unlawful war against Ukraine.”
Most probably, it started with Iran supplying Russia hundreds of drones when the war started over two years ago. However, the supply of ballistic missiles entails a new dimension—a higher level of engagement in the conflict.
Before the EU, the US has accused Iran of providing the projectiles to President Vladimir Putin’s military.
