Iran launches clinics for women defying hijab mandate

The ‘Clinic for Quitting Hijab Removal’ would carry out the scientific and psychological treatment for the removal of the hijab, which primarily targets the teenage generation, young adults, and women in search of their social and Islamic identity.

Now, the women who do not adhere to Iran’s compulsive Hijab rule will be forwarded to a ‘treatment centre’. The country will have opened a ‘Clinic for Quitting Hijab Removal’ to provide a cure to the women refusing to wear hijab.

The issue of defying the strict hijab codes has become a contentious issue in Iran, with many rebelling against the Islamic Republic’s treatment towards its women.

The movement, termed ‘Women, Life, Freedom,’ has swept across the country, where women come together to fight for their rights and overturn the administration’s strict dress code.

This move comes days after an Iranian university student stripped down to her underwear in protest of the dress code. The administration was quick to brand her ‘mentally unstable’.

How will the clinic work? Mehri Talebi Darestani, head of the Women and Family Department of the Tehran Headquarters for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, declared the founding of a mental health clinic.

Darestani, also tasked with the running of the centre, said the clinic “will be for the scientific and psychological treatment of removing the hijab, especially for the teenage generation, young adults, and women seeking social and Islamic identity”.

This project is also concerned with instilling in women “dignity, modesty, chastity, and hijab.” However, she said it would be up to women to visit the clinic.
