Iran’s 9th President officially appointed by supreme leader Khamenei

The new president is expected to be inaugurated before parliament either today or preferably Tuesday. The inauguration was done at an endorsement ceremony in the capital, Tehran, in the company of key Iranian dignitaries and foreign ambassadors and aired on live television.

Pezeshkian has outvoted Saeed Jalili, an ultraconservative, in a runoff election on July 5 to succeed president Ebrahim Raisi, who perished in a helicopter crash in May.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, officially blessed reformist Masoud Pezeshkian as the Islamic republic’s ninth president on Sunday after the completion of snap elections held this month.

In a message read by the director of Khamenei’s office, he said, ”I say ‘yes’ to voting following the wise, honest, popular, and scholarly Mr. Pezeshkian, and I am assigning him as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”.

The new president is to be inaugurated before the parliament this Tuesday.

The official endorsement took place in the capital Tehran with the presence of the Iranian government officials and ambassadors of other countries and was on state television.

Pezeshkian defeated Jalili in a runoff poll on 5th July to succeed president Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter accident early this year.
