As part of the effort to address the severely worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army has declared an open daily humanitarian Aid for some hours in parts of southern Gaza.
Excessive military activity stopping will be during the hours of 08:00 and 19:00 local time along the road connecting Kerem Shalom Crossing with Salah al-Din Road and to the north thereof.
The move was made in cooperation with the United Nations and other international non-governmental organizations: “To increase the amount of humanitarian assistance delivered to the Gaza Strip.” The multiplicative factor shows that the conditions are only getting worse in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The World Health Organization has described this as a significant crisis by stating that over 8000 children under the age of five have been treated for acute malnutrition in Gaza and that there is a severe shortage of food and other basic needs.
While the US and other global mediators have encouraged both sides to come up with a ceasefire deal under the hope that it will enable the provision of assistance and exchange of prisoners, the process has recently come to a standstill.
The deputy executive director of the World Food Programme, Carl Skau, has pointed out the difficulty in delivering the said amount and quality of aid, saying that ‘Inside the Strip lawlessness and active conflict’ hampers the actions. The perception that a pause in the current aggression is felt should be seen as a twinkle of a new strategy for bringing an end to the suffering of the people of Gaza.
