Israel calls for UN rapporteur Albanese’s resignation

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, called Wednesday for the resignation of UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese, saying she had promoted anti-Semitic rhetoric and undermined human rights.

This comes after Albanese told a UN General Assembly committee on Monday that developments in recent months “cement my assessment that Israel is conducting a genocidal campaign against the Palestinians.”

In a post in X, Danon referred to Albanese’s comments as “baseless propaganda and lies,” adding that her position at the UN lends credibility to her supposedly “anti-semantic” views.

“For the umpteenth time, the UN has rolled out the red carpet for one of the most anti-Semitic figures in modern history, giving her a stage from which to spew baseless propaganda and lies,” he wrote.

Slamming Albanese directly, he added, “Your presence at the UN is a disgrace, a betrayal of all moral standards.

Resign immediately. Leave your credentials at the door and join your friends at Hamas and Hezbollah, where you belong.”

Albanese defends herself Albanese, accused of bias by Israel and its allies for years, took to the podium in a press briefing Wednesday to defend her comments, saying that her focus was toward the rights of Palestinians and not an attack on Judaism or the right of Israel to exist.

“I don’t feel comfortable entertaining any longer discussions concerning the attacks against me because it’s not about me, and I’m not the story,” she said.

Emphasizing the impartiality of her mandate, she declared: “The story is the fact that there are Palestinians who risk being erased from their land.”
