
In a dramatic turn of events, Israel has freed 46 Palestinian detainees, 24 of them minors from Gaza. The release comes after the delay due to identification of four bodies of captives who were brought back by Hamas.
Earlier, 456 Palestinians who were in Israeli prisons have been repatriated to Gaza, with 97 other individuals deported to Egypt. A further 37 have arrived in the West Bank, and five others arrived in occupied East Jerusalem.
Despite the ongoing ceasefire, Gaza’s hospitals have been taking in 17 dead and 19 injured Palestinians over the last 48 hours, the enclave’s Ministry of Health says.
The Ministry has confirmed that the conflict death toll now stands at 48,365 Palestinians, while 111,780 others are injured. The Government Media Office has updated its figures, which indicate at least 61,709 killed, with thousands more believed to be buried under rubble and presumed dead.
For contrast, the violence that erupted on October 7, 2023, amid attacks by Hamas killed at least 1,139 in Israel, with over 200 others taken captive.
