Israel strikes Beirut, death toll rises amid ongoing conflict

Israel attacked Beirut’s Kola area with a major airstrike for the first time Sunday, outside of the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital. The strike killed three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Israeli attacks have killed 105 people in the past 24 hours, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, as military jets keep up the unending bombardment of the country. Israel also turned up the pressure inside the Gaza Strip, with at least 28 people dying in that region in the last day.

The strikes were in addition to others by the Israeli Air Force, which pounded a power plant and a seaport in the Yemeni coastal cities of Hodeidah and Ras Isa, respectively. This killed at least four people.

The casualties in this unending conflict in Gaza have reached staggering figures; reports indicated that at least 41,595 people have been killed and 96,251 injured since the beginning of the escalation in October. In Israel, the aftermath of the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 has left at least 1,139 dead and more than 200 taken captive.
