One was killed and seven injured in an airstrike by the Israeli military against Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza, destroying over a dozen tents housing displaced Palestinians sheltering there. This has been the latest incident in a spate of attacks against the hospital, which has been housing scores of people amid extreme shortages of medical staff and supplies.
This hospital is the only functional medical facility in central Gaza and has treated thousands of Palestinians since October 7; it has also been under bombardment several times. The reporter say that destruction was rife at the site, showing a crater from the strike. “Palestinian refugees have lost everything, including blankets and mattresses,” he said.
Indicia, at the scene of the attack, indicated that the armament was manufactured in the U.S. Medical facilities in Gaza have often been targeted by Israeli forces – an act classified as war crimes under the Geneva Convention. Abu Azzoum said, “Al-Aqsa is supposed to be a sanctuary, but people have grown to feel defenseless because of repeated attacks.”
In a separate strike, four people were killed in Jabalia refugee camp. In contrast, others were injured in different parts of the territory, including Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and Deir el-Balah.
At a recent United Nations General Assembly speech, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas criticized the U.S. for encouraging Israel’s behavior. He called for an international community halt to armament supplies sent to Israel. The hostilities have killed 41,534 Palestinians and wounded another 96,092-over half of them women and children, including approximately 1,300 infants and toddlers under two years old.
