An Israeli strike on the government building in Nabatieh in southern Lebanon reportedly killed at least five civilians, including the town’s mayor. The attack has been described as an escalation in ongoing hostilities in the region.
Human rights organizations have expressed grave concerns, describing the situation as having reached a “horrifying level of atrocity” as the Israeli military siege of northern Gaza enters its twelfth day. The situation is dire amid reports of widespread devastation.
Meanwhile, Israeli bombardment also consolidated in the southern suburbs of Beirut, despite the statements of the United States opposing the wide scope of the attacks on Lebanon’s capital. The Prime Minister of Lebanon says he had received assurances from the U.S. that Israel would stop operations.
Israeli bombardments hit houses and a medical center in the town of Qana, which has tragically been part of bloody history in past conflicts, killing at least 15 people. Qana is still remembered for massacres in both 1996 and 2006.
The toll in Gaza continued to rise sharply as reports said at least 42,409 people were killed and 99,153 were injured due to the Israeli assaults that started hostilities in October 2023. The conflict began when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. At least 1,139 people were killed and over 200 abducted.
