Israeli strikes eliminate another Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
Beirut: Israeli airstrikes in southern Beirut on Friday have reportedly killed yet another senior Hezbollah commander, Ahmed Mahmud Wahbi, taking the death toll from the operations to 16.
A top trainer in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force previously, Wahbi also fought in Syria’s civil war augmenting the Assad regime.
The latest raids came days after “pager attacks” detonated devices of the Iran-backed group, killing over 30. It followed an earlier Israeli strike eliminating Ibrahim Aqil, head of the Radwan Force.
Friday’s bombardment left a massive crater gutting a high-rise, further escalating tensions since strikes began with the Gaza conflict.
Sources said 16 elite Radwan cadres lost their lives in the “targeted” operation Israel described as eliminating Aqil.
UN asserted that “heightened escalation” warranted maximum restraint from all sides as the situation deteriorated further after consecutive blows dealt to Hezbollah’s senior leadership structure.
With strategic pressure mounting, observers watch closely for reciprocal moves by the militant organization now reeling from successive assassinations of top commanders.
