Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Lebanese PM Najib Mikati are among those who will attend the Riyadh meeting.
The Arab and Muslim leaders’ summit, which focuses on the devastation caused by Israeli wars in Gaza and Lebanon, will be held this month in Saudi Arabia, reported the state media.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the summit in late October, during the first meeting of an “international alliance” pushing for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A report published in the Saudi Press Agency said, “Israel’s aggression in Gaza and Lebanon has compelled Arab and Islamic leaders to take urgent action.”.
Key priorities [for the summit] include halting the aggression, protecting civilians, providing support to the Palestinian and Lebanese people, unifying positions, and exerting pressure on the international community to take decisive steps to end the ongoing attacks and establish lasting peace and stability in the region, it added.
The state-run Al Ekhbariya news channel in Saudi showed Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati landing in Riyadh for the summit last Sunday evening.
Ukraine representatives, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are expected to attend the gathering.
Officials said Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian will not attend due to pressing “executive matters.” However, in a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Pezeshkian stated that Iran’s First Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref, will attend the summit.
