The Israeli army has left Jenin, a city in the West Bank which it occupied and has been besieged for 10 days, and a refugee camp it had razed in the process with many dead. The Palestinian news agency Wafa affirmed the withdrawal, but people worry over the possibility of the redeployment of the Israeli forces who have withdrawn to nearby supply points.
No less than 21 Palestinians were killed. At least half of them were children and the elderly, and at least 130 more were injured, as per the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The Israeli military defined its operations as a ‘counterterrorism operation”; 14 ‘armed militants’ were eliminated, and over 30 people were detained during the operation.
After the fighting had lessened, it came time for people to return to their dwellings and see how badly they had been ravaged. Leila Warah, a journalist, claimed that members of the Jenites were going back solely to assess the devastation. But other military checkpoints near the area were still operational, and this created fears that the acts may be repeated in the future.
Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its anger at the raids and stated that it is like the situation in Jenin is the same as in Gaza. In other areas, the Israeli forces have been involved in operations that have resulted in people being arrested and injured, while most parts of the West Bank are closed because of the continuous military activities.
