Israeli settler attack sparks fear in West Bank village

The settlers of Israel assaulted the Palestinian village of al-Mughayyer in the West Bank on a vicious flip-side, sending the residents to tremble because they fear more of such attacks. The observers spoke of multiple armed settlers in a higher number than before in a similar instigating circumstance. It is amazing that the assault still lasted for several hours even though there were soldiers present on the spot who were witnesses to that incident.

The aftermath of the attack was a landscape dotted by bullet-pocked houses and cars devoid of matching parts. Residents complain about the fact that there is no strong defence on their side, located as they are in the West Bank and under occupation, fearing that there will be new attacks in the near future, possibly even against their very place.

Abdullatif Abu Alia – someone whose house was targeted – talked about the inequality, saying:

“We have stones against guns, and the army keeps supporting the occupiers.”

In this terrible situation, people peacefully resisting were shot at, and that killed the people.

Clash at al-Mughayyer occurred as part of a series of village raids pursuant to the discovery of the body of 14 14-year-old Israeli boy, who disappeared nearby. Israel has been experiencing a growing trend in the settlers’ violence, with several states urging it to undertake actions that would help in reducing and even stopping such cases.

The Israeli forces asserted that these encounters occurred in retaliation to the death of the Israeli teenager, which was followed by open and intensive hostilities and property arson. Nevertheless, the prosecution of the soldiers during the al-Mughayyer attack demonstrated the willingness of the generals to investigate the matter. The regions of the West Bank, which Israel took over as a result of the 1967 war, are a place where settlers and Palestinian conflicts and violence take place regularly.
