Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon kill six medics amid truce talks

Several die in Lebanon as Israel’s rockets are killed after US diplomats visit ceasefire talks on the borders with Lebanon and Gaza.

Lebanese security officials confirmed that at least six healthcare workers died on Tuesday following Israeli air and artillery bombardments, mostly in hospitals, across southern Lebanon since Monday when it issued eviction orders on southern villages after a weekend’s rocket strike.

Enemy aircraft dropped four strikes on the village of Douris and the outskirts of the city of Baalbek,” Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said Thursday.

The six medical personnel were killed and four others wounded in a spate of Israeli attacks, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said. It said the Israeli forces hit a muster point for civil defense volunteers, killing four medical volunteers. Two other medical volunteers were killed in two additional separate incidents.

There was another attack in the town of Salaa, which destroyed an ambulance, but the paramedic operating it “miraculously survived,” it said.

“The international community’s silence regarding this brutality is unjustified at a time when voices must be raised to restore humanitarian laws and put an end to the machine of brutality that continues to kill front-line personnel,” the ministry said in a statement carried by the NNA.

It added that 178 paramedics have been killed and 279 wounded since Israel’s attacks on Lebanon started, besides 246 vehicles hit.
