Journalist among killed during Israeli rescue of hostages in Gaza.
In a revelation, Israeli forces have stated that a Gaza-based journalist reported to be holding three Hamas hostages was killed during their rescue operation on June 8. Special forces stormed the Nuseirat home of Abdallah Aljamal, who also worked with the Hamas ministry, and freed the captives – Almog Meir Jan, Andri Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv.
Euro-Med Monitor head Rami Abdu first reported Aljamal’s death along with family members, alleging excessive force. However, Israel claims he was detaining hostages at home.
While his affiliations are unclear, Aljamal has contributed reports on the Gaza situation to outlets like Palestine Chronicle and Al Jazeera. He recently covered deaths in Nuseirat, the raid location.
Though the Qatar-based channel stated he wasn’t an employee, the independent Palestine Chronicle confirmed his contributions focused on ground coverage.
The incident brings under cloud allegations of civilian casualties during the mission. But Israel maintains Hamas uses human shields, justifying the journalist’s killing during the extraction.
The fate of Aljamal’s family also remains vague as details surface of the complex operation that saw four hostages rescued from militant captivity.
