Japan sees India as ‘Crucial Partner’ amid global uncertainty

During the globalization process and the formation of the multipolar world, Japan has been one of the most reliable partners for the Indian economy, which is interested in expanding cooperation in various fields.

At the recent Japan-India foreign minister-level political Dialogue held in Tokyo, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and her Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar explored how to advance the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership as the bilateral relationship turns ten this year.

At the event, Kamikawa depicted Japan’s willingness to create new solutions in cooperation with India, saying that Tokyo is ready to dialogue that would make its cooperation with New Delhi even better. In turn, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s desire to expand cooperation across all four clusters that form the basis of relations between the two countries: the economy, security, people, and migration.

Moreover, they appreciated an initiative to diversify the JET Programme’s recruitment for Indian nationals and the dispatch of Japanese Language Partners to India, which was deemed necessary to enhance people-to-people ties between Japan and India.

The meeting followed the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting, at which the foreign ministers of Japan, India, the United States, and Australia declared their support for the shared principles of a rules-based, free, and open order in the Indo-Pacific region.

In the course of a follow-up meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the Quad foreign ministers, including Jaishankar, apprised the Japanese leader of the regards of their Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also outlined the gist of the discussions that had taken place, among other things.

In return, Kishida accentuated the Quad’s importance for Japan, the US, Australia, and India, stressing that the rising uncertainty requires the promotion of principles and core values.

The drift of global shifts and the fast-changing international relations have enhanced India-Japan relations, leading to the goal of progress, peace, and stability for both countries in the region and the rest of the world.
