Japanese man’s unusual hobby: Breaking into 1,000 homes

Police said that there were no reports of his house invasion thefts. A 37-year-old Japanese man was arrested for entering more than 1,000 houses in an attempt to relieve stress. On 25 November 2024, the man was detained in Dazaifu in Fukuoka Prefecture for breaking into the home of a private person.

When he entered his compound, the house owner and his wife quickly ran to inform security, and after that, he was taken into custody.

According to The Japan Times, when the police asked him about it, he said, “Breaking into other people’s homes is a hobby of mine, and I have done it more than 1,000 times.”
He added, “I get so thrilled that my palms sweat when wondering if someone will discover me, and it relieves some stress.”

However, police noted no theft cases were reported about his house invasions. This is not an isolated incident of this kind of bizarre incident. In another case from Japan, a 17-year-old girl was prosecuted posthumously after her suicide led to the death of another woman.

According to a report by Japan Today, on August 31, 2024, the teenager jumped off the Newman shopping mall building in Yokohama and landed on Chikako Chiba. Both were hospitalized, and both of them succumbed to their injuries later in the day.

The police have claimed she was old enough to understand the risks her actions might have for the people below. Based on these grounds, she has been charged legally after her death.
