US President Donald Trump wrapped up a four-day tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates on Friday. Following are some of the major takeaways from the tour: US President Donald Trump finished a four-day tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates on Friday, characterized by lavish shows of hospitality, multi-billion dollar deals, and short policy talks regarding major regional disputes.
The US president was greeted by royal pomp and circumstance in all three Gulf states — accompanied by fighter jets, met with Arabian horsemen carrying flags, and hosted lavish state dinners. In Riyadh, he inspected gilded palaces, in Doha he hailed the marble interiors like a veteran luxury hotelier and in Abu Dhabi, he described the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque “incredible,” marveling at its white domes and minarets.
Disco hit “YMCA,” a staple of Trump rallies and long recognized as an LGBTQ+ anthem, was played repeatedly during the visit, highlighting the showmanship of the trip. Though the spectacle took centre stage, Trump also addressed serious issues. He had closed-door meetings on Syria, the conflict in Ukraine, Gaza tensions, and Iran’s influence in the region.
Some of the highlights of the tour are as follows: In Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated a far-reaching $600 billion commitment to US-Saudi collaboration. The investments will range from artificial intelligence data centres, infrastructure, and healthcare to science and defence cooperation.
In Qatar, Trump announced a whopping $1.2 trillion economic transaction. The highlight announcement: Qatar Airways is looking to buy up to 210 Boeing planes for $96 billion.
As per the White House, the agreement would sustain 154,000 American jobs each year during production, or more than 1 million jobs throughout the life of the deal. It also represents the largest-ever order of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
