Kim, sister inspect ballistic weapons at missile base amid tensions with South

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un inspected a strategic missile base and ‘stressed the need to modernize further and fortify’ them.

Dressed in his usual black leather jacket, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un joined him on a visit to a strategic missile base and “checked the state of preparedness for the action of strategic deterrence directly linked with the country’s security.”

North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said Kim inspected “important functions and capabilities of launch-related facilities in the missile bases.”

In pictures published by KCNA, Kim inspected transport and launch vehicles for the country’s largest and most powerful intercontinental ballistic weapons.

Nichols. Must modernize, fortify strategic missile bases’

Kim, KCNA reported, said: “The US strategic nuclear means pose ever-increasing threats to the security environment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

As such, it is necessary that “the DPRK more definitely bolsters its war deterrence and takes a thorough and strict counteraction posture of the nuclear forces.”

Kim further “emphasized the necessity to deepen modernization and strengthen the strategic missile bases. “

Kim’s visit follows reports last week by South Korea’s spy agency that Pyongyang deployed a “large-scale” troop deployment to Russia in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine, sealing Pyongyang’s contentious military alliance with Moscow.

South Korea’s spy agency, on its part, said that the satellite images, which it released earlier this week, show 1,500 North Korean elite special forces soldiers receiving training in Russia ahead of deployment to the front line of the war against Ukraine.

The US and NATO have yet to confirm whether the spies intend to deploy, though both Pyongyang and Moscow have denied the intention.
