Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned South Korea, saying it will make a ‘big mistake’ if the country sells arms and ammunition to Ukraine, which has been in a confrontation with the Kremlin.
Putin’s comments were made after South Korea hinted at the possibility of supplying military support to Kyiv following the signing of a new agreement between Russia and North Korea to give mutual support in case “aggression” against one of the parties occurred.
When discussing this subject with Vietnam’s reporters, the Russian leader pointed out:
‘If the Republic of Korea sends weapon to Ukraine, Moscow will … make decisions distinguishing so which will not please the current leadership of South Korea’.
After Putin’s comments, South Korea’s presidential office stated on Friday that it would provide ‘various options’ to Ukraine in sharing arms; their position ‘will depend’ on how Russia proceeds through this issue. South Korea summoned Russia’s ambassador, urging Moscow to stop its military relations with North Korea.
The said agreement has received criticism across the globe. It has been referred to as a cause of concern to any country that wants to see Positive peace and stability achieved in the region By the US National Security Council’s spokesman.
Experts think this treaty can be a serious irony possessing North Korea for its open supply of Russia or Russia’s interference in any new conflict in Korea.
