Palace skipper Guehi is contracted until next year, but chairman Steve Parish indicated at the start of this week that he might be sold this summer to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer in 12 months.
BBC Sport understands that Liverpool have opened talks to sign the 25-year-old before the close of the summer transfer window. Liverpool is also attempting to sign Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
The 18-year-old Italian is not viewed as a threat to Guehi now, but rather for the future. Guehi was bid for by Newcastle last year for up to £65m. The FA Cup winners are thought to want £40m for him now, but Liverpool prefer to pay less than that. The Reds have already spent around £270m this summer, although they have earned back around £170m from the sale of players.
They have also had a £110m offer for Alexander Isak turned down by Newcastle, although sources informed BBC Sport that the Swede is still keen to join Anfield. Transfers for Guehi and Isak would bring Liverpool’s summer spending to over £400m.
