To the tune, 110,000 residents of the Guangdong flooded province were ordered by authorities to leave their homes and seek safety. Severe floods have affected the region since Tuesday, which have caused serious waterlogging and overwhelmed the infrastructure of the north province that is the home of the biggest part of the country’s population. State media say there were four world murders, and 10 people are still missing.
Outside, flooded towns and cities are all over the news and social media, with footage showing large areas of submerged ground. Lifeboats are navigating through waist-length flood water to reach out to the survivors. Rivers of this stature are already under the water, and officials remain vigilant about the unprecedented levels of water content that are equated with danger.
The 3-meter (10-feet) low-lying Pearl River delta, a leading region for manufacturing that is populated massively by people, can be flooded easily caused of the sea level and the increase of throw waves. To differentiate, we are looking at cities such as Guangzhou, Shaoguan, and Heyuan, which have been most flooded, damaging many homes. Lossing power caused 1.16 million households to change their regular electricity consumption, but most of them had their power supply back by the middle of Sunday night.
This circumstance has resulted in the displacement of about 110,000 people and caused 25,800 to take shelter. Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport has been prevented from functioning since it continues to rain heavily, and some schools in different cities have been shut down by order. The economic burden was 912 million RMB ($141.8 million) in direct losses.
China’s meteorological offices have expected heavy downpours in the area of Guangdong until Tuesday but are not certain about it yet. In addition to the capital city of Beijing, the region of Tianjin and Hebei province may receive similar rainfall levels of moderate to heavy size.
