Mayor Adams mistakenly calls India ‘Pakistan’ at celebration

New York City Mayor Eric Adams even mixed up ‘India’ with ‘Pakistan’ thrice during the 78th Indian Independence Day celebration in Queens. The mistake was made a day after he spoke on the same ground at a flag-raising ceremony for Pakistan Independence Day.

The incident happened on Saturday, the Queens 9th India Day Parade. Adams addressed a lively audience from a podium that had Indian flags, tricolor balloons, and banners saying, ‘Mayor Adams Celebrates the Indian Community. ‘ Adams held both the Indian tricolor and the US flag while the audience included people with Indian flags and wearing clothes of the Indian flag colors.

However, during his speech, Adams used Pakistan and not India all the time. That we did, this week at Bowling Green… and no better representation of what you bring to this community than the men and woman of the law enforcement community here tonight – the ‘Pakistani’ officers as they increase in numbers, he added, according to PTI.

The error was not concealed; however, to better understand its reasons, let us focus on the company’s strengths. One audience member, to clarify for him, objected to the fact that it was India: “India! It’s India!” This was a regrettable mistake, especially having occurred when Adams had raised the Indian flag during India’s Independence Day celebrations at the Bowling green park two days before the goof. This confusion may have arisen from his speech to another audience during Pakistan’s Independence Day.
