Several students faced the president and turned their backs to him, and most waved Palestinian flags. At the same time, some tried to show solidarity with Palestinian demonstrations that had gone on on campuses all around the nation following bombings of Israel by Hamas on the 7th of October.
Biden then addressed the protest directly and emphasized that the issue is not simple and causes a lot of emotion among people. In an interview, he said,

He stressed this by saying: “I support peaceful demonstrations; that’s why I said it is important.”. Your voices should be heard and I assure you that I am listening and responding to them. He characterized the situation in Gaza as a “humanitarian catastrophe.”
He called for an “immediate ceasefire to stop this violence” while at the same time insisting on a “permanent, lasting peace between Israel and Palestine, and this includes a Palestinian state.” He also expressed his desire to “bring the hostages home.”.
Biden’s ability to speak forthrightly about difficult topics drew an endorsement from Morehouse President David Thomas. “You addressed the hardest issues that we face as a nation and as a world in the present.
