The current political surprise of the week is billionaire Elon Musk, who has contributed a huge sum to the Super Political Action Committee supporting the presidency of the former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, for the next presidential term, 2024.
By low profile, we mean that little is usually known regarding the America PAC to which Musk donated a ‘substantial sum of money,’ though the exact amount has not been revealed yet. This is quite a change from Musk’s previous model of political neutrality; earlier, Musk was accused of holding right-wing views and, publicly recently, the Democrats.
The America PAC, which has benefitted from Musk’s dough, is believed to be targeting ‘get out and vote’ instrumentalities in the ´ swing states, where the bellwether elections will be held. The strategy of the group is mainly persuasion from door to door. This strategy is facilitated by the recent court decision that opened the door for super PACs to coordinate with campaigns regarding the voters.
In supporting a pro-Trump group, Musk put down Biden in quite what could be detrimental to the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, whose campaign is already marred by concerns about his age and, most significantly, his declining mental health.
This also raises the billionaire’s political power, as his businesses, Tesla and SpaceX, are involved in large governmental contracts and often conflict with federal regulations.
