Nawaz Sharif urges PM to avoid aggression towards India

Nawaz Sharif cautioned PM Shehbaz against adopting any belligerent stance on the issue and to utilize diplomatic means to defuse tensions. Three times Prime Minister of Pakistan and creator of the country’s ruling political party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif has instructed his younger brother and present Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, to use all diplomatic means at his disposal to bring peace with India back, insisting that he is opposed to adopting an aggressive stance.

The two brothers sat together on Sunday evening in Lahore, as Shehbaz updated Nawaz Sharif regarding the actions his government took against India following the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, particularly after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) following the Pahalgam attack.

IANS Sources indicated that Shehbaz Sharif explained how his administration has responded to New Delhi’s actions and also shut down its airspace for India. He also informed about the nation being ready to respond to any aggression from India with increased response.

“PM Shehbaz informed his older brother and party founder that India’s unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty had increased the threat of a war in the region,” the source said. Nawaz Sharif instructed PM Shehbaz not to adopt any belligerent stance on the issue and to utilize diplomatic means to defuse tensions.

The two brothers had a meeting in Lahore on Sunday evening, where Shehbaz updated Nawaz Sharif on the actions taken by his government against India following the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, particularly after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) following the Pahalgam attack.

IANS Sources added that Shehbaz Sharif explained how his administration has retaliated against New Delhi’s actions and also shut its airspace to India. He also informed about the nation’s readiness to counter any aggression by India with an enhanced response.

“PM Shehbaz informed his older brother and party founder that India’s unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty had increased the risk of war in the region,” the source said. Nawaz Sharif counselled PM Shehbaz not to adopt any belligerent stance on the issue and to employ diplomatic means to de-escalate tensions.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has urged India to establish an international commission, with representatives of nations such as the United States, Russia, China and Britain to probe the Pahalgam attack.
