Netanyahu to address US Congress amid Israel-Hamas war

What risks have been precipitated politically is a move of House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to address a joint session of the US Congress “soon”. This comes as Israel remains engaged in a brutal war against the Hamas terrorist outfit based in the Gaza Strip.

Another source suggests that Netanyahu has been discussing with the Republican leaders of the Congress about a possible address during the joint session, thus perceiving this as a desirable chance for the Israeli government to strut before the international community.

Johnson said that this address will be articulate at the right time and will be a powerful show of support for the Israeli government in whatever trying time they are in.

But this is likely to provoke some Democrats, who have opposed Netanyahu and disapprobatory of handling the ongoing unrest. Namely, according to Democratic sources, Netanyahu is expected to deliver a speech that others call “a grave mistake.”

The resulting emphasis on the existing divide and the disagreement between Democrats and Republicans over Netanyahu’s behavior and the state of Israel would most likely exacerbate the process.

Deteriorating relations between the Biden administration and the Israeli government evidence these actions. While the world follows developments in the Middle East, one thing is for sure: Netanyahu’s speech before the US Congress adds another twist to the situation that’s already souring.
