On Sunday, North Korea accused South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol of driving his country towards the danger of a nuclear war with Pyongyang.
In a white paper published by North Korean state media, Pyongyang criticized Yoon’s “reckless remarks” over war, abandonment of the elements of an inter-Korean government, engaging in nuclear war planning with the US, and seeking closer ties with Japan and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
It said the paper noted that all of Seoul’s military moves, which have been getting worse, only brought about the paradoxical consequence of pushing North Korea to stockpile its nuclear weapons at an exponential rate and further develop its nuclear attack capability.
The paper further listed Yoon’s domestic political woes, including scandals involving his wife, Kim Keon-hee.
South Korean President Yoon has taken a hard line toward North Korea. His administration blames Pyongyang for increasing tensions with its weapons tests and providing military aid and troops to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The two Koreas remain technically at war after their 1950-53 war ended with an armistice but without a peace treaty.
Last October, the North blew up sections of inter-Korean roads and rail lines on its side of the heavily fortified border between the two Koreas.
The white paper was issued one day after North Korea vowed it would continue to develop self-defense capabilities and accused South Korea and the US of pushing the Korean Peninsula into war scenarios.
