Over 50 injured on Latam flight from Sydney to Auckland
A Latam Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland encountered a technical issue mid-air on Monday, leading to injuries for some passengers. According to an airline spokesperson, flight LA800, traveling on a Boeing 787-9, experienced a “strong movement” due to a technical problem. This caused injuries to passengers.
The plane nonetheless landed as scheduled at Auckland Airport. Airport authorities confirmed receiving an emergency response call from the flight.
New Zealand’s Hato Hone St John ambulance service dispatched teams to provide medical aid. Around a dozen injured passengers were taken to hospitals by ambulances. One patient is reported to be in serious condition.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft on behalf of Latam, stopped in Auckland before continuing to Santiago, Chile.
Latam Airlines is investigating the incident, but the details of the technical issue remain unclear. Over 50 passengers are believed to have sustained injuries due to the mid-air disturbance the flight experienced.
