Pakistan court grants bail to Imran Khan’s party lawmakers.
An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has granted bail to 10 lawmakers from former PM Imran Khan‘s PTI party.
The legislators were among over 30 PTI members arrested last week for leading a major rally in Islamabad.
Bail has been set at Rs. 30,000 for the 10 MPs, who faced charges under the new protest law and anti-terrorism act.
PTI has faced a crackdown since Khan’s imprisonment last year on politically motivated charges, according to a UN panel. Khan’s supporters have clashed with the military, leading to a sweeping enforcement action on PTI.
However, PTI candidates won most seats in recent polls despite rigging allegations. Khan first came to power in 2018 with military support but later fell out with the powerful establishment.
The latest court decision comes amid broader restrictions on PTI and its campaign to have Khan reinstated as prime minister. However tensions remain high between the former ruling party and state institutions in Pakistan.
