Pakistan braces for potential petrol price hike in bi-weekly review

According to a recent report, people in Pakistan may soon face another challenge. Fuel prices are expected to go up in the next fortnightly petrol price revision. Rising international crude oil prices are the main reason for this expected increase.

If estimates from the oil ministry are correct, fuel prices could rise by around PKR 10 per liter in the upcoming survey, taking it to PKR 289.69 per liter compared to the current PKR 279.75 per liter but with a silver lining covered for consumers that the higher predicted speed diesel ( HSD) price will fall by PKR 1.30 per liter, to PKR 284.26 per liter instead of the current PKR 285.86 per liter Falling global high-speed diesel (HSD) prices are expected to reduce prices in Pakistan.

In recent weeks, global HSD prices have fallen from the US. $99 per barrel in the first half of March. Consequently, domestic consumers benefit from the high-speed diesel price reduction of over Rs. Petrol prices in Pakistan are monitored every 15 days, considering global and local currency exchange rates.

The Pakistani rupee appreciated slightly against the US dollar. To 277.94 per dollar on Friday. Petrol prices remained unchanged in the previous fortnightly survey, while high-speed diesel (HSD) fell by PKR 1.77 per litre. Fluctuations in petrol and diesel prices significantly impact the daily lives of Pakistanis, and the forthcoming fortnightly survey will determine the financial burden on motorists in the country.
