Pakistan develops homegrown messaging app Amidst Internet outages”

To start with the service, Beep Pakistan will initially cover government-related announcements only. But it could also, officials believe, one day be made available for public use as well.

Islamabad, Pakistan Pakistani government to launch “Beep Pakistan,”  the communication application of the country’s federal authorities and personalities. Its one request? Kindly do not weigh it against the globallyally used app for messaging; WhatsApp.

The state minister for information technology and telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khwaja, said that the application is in trial at her ministry and will be launched’soon’ in other departments.

Based on the discussed problem, we have designed an application in which algorithms are aimed at providing secure and centralized communication between government officials. The goal to create Beep Pakistan is to protect our privacy and our data,” Saba has said to Al Jazeera.

In August 2023, when Syed Aminul Haque, the then minister of IT, put forward the plan of this new application, he called it a clone of WhatsApp to be developed in Pakistan. It is worthy to note that the government is now trying to dissociate itself from that comparison.

Any comparison with WhatsApp is out of place, as there are no plans to compete with any third-party application, Khwaja pointed out.
