They include a serving Pakistan Lieutenant Colonel and three of his close relatives who were kidnapped on Wednesday by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Dera Ismail Khan, this source stated on Sunday. The army said that through the help of local tribal leaders and influential personalities, Lt. Col. Ameer was safely and unconditionally released along with his relatives detained by the rebels.
Self-governing officials, townspeople, and even the Afghan Taliban were involved in the process of freeing the lieutenant colonel and his family members. Lt. Col. Khalid, two brothers, and a nephew were abducted at gunpoint from Kulachi tehsil while they were attending the mourning van of their family member.
The TTP released a video that includes this lieutenant colonel and another relative of him. They are demanding that their conditions be fulfilled so that they can be safe. They also urged the public not to post the incident on social media so as not to spread wrong information about the TTP.
TTP released a statement for radio Mashaal during which they took responsibility for the abduction, claiming that the abducted people were safe. This attack comes on the backdrop of the Pakistani government’s recent military operations against suspected militants coming from Afghanistan.
