Palestinian PM Shtayyeh Resigns, opening path to reforms

The crown as the prime minister of Palestine is now on Mohammed Shtayyeh. In particular, on the 26th of February, he elaborated on his and the whole cabinet’s resignation tenders.

President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine should decide now whether he wants to accept or reject the resigned cabinet members.

While this step is seen as possible by the U.S. in opening new opportunities for reforms within the Palestinian Authority, the latter views this action as a waste of time and an overly favorable policy towards Israel. This can be described as a Palestinian leadership that aims to storm politics with a belief that its only option for revival is a total transformation.

‘In the essence of the statement, the U.S. expects a reformed Palestinian Authority to govern Gaza after the current strenuous confrontations finish. Nevertheless, the idea of turning it into a reality tangles many obstacles.

However, the fact that Shtayyeh quit signals a readiness for renovation, a step that is not to be ignored on the path of modernization.
