Passenger bus crash in Pakistan leaves 29 dead, 1 injured

At least 29 people died on the road when a passenger bus overturned and toppled into a roadside ditch in Pakistan, with only one survivor.

The bus was carrying 30 passengers and was on the Haveli Kahuta-Rawalpindi route. It has been reported by Pakistani news channel Geo News that the mishap occurred near Pana Bridge.

To this date, the cause of the accident is not known, and it happened around the mountainous area of Kahuta tehsil, Rawalpindi. Station House Officer of Kahuta SHO Muhammad Zaka, in his interview with Geo News, said that police and rescue teams have reached the site of the accident now some bodies are being pulled out of the bus.

The law enforcement officers informed them that some of the people were known to them as some of the bodies were shifted to the district headquarters hospital.

However, Pakistan’s President, Asif Ali Zardari, lamented over the loss of lives as a result of the accident. “My feelings are with the families of the deceased during this hour of sorrow,” the president added on the urgency of increasing the pace of the relief efforts.
