United States: Man from Pennsylvania Charged for Threatening to Kill President Biden and Clinton.
In a concerning development, a Pennsylvania man has been charged with making online threats to kill the outgoing United States President, Joe Biden, and former Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.
The suspect, identified as Gregory Mitzel, allegedly posted the threats just hours after the first assassination attempt against Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, on July 13.
According to court documents cited by CNN, Mitzel’s threatening posts on Facebook included statements such as “Hey Hillary, you missed the next one’s coming for you and Joe” and “Joe you are going down you and Hillary are going down.
You will be in the crosshairs. Thank you.” In another post, he went as far as saying, “The next step in this process has to be somebody put a bullet in Joe Biden’s head.”
Prosecutors have also accused Mitzel of threatening to kill the U.S. attorney handling the investigation into his threats against President Biden.
The Pennsylvania man now faces several charges, including threatening to kill the U.S. president and threatening a federal official.
The developments come as the United States is in the midst of the 2024 presidential election, with Pennsylvania being one of the crucial battleground states.
Ahead of the poll closures in the state, former President Trump took to social media, alleging “massive cheating” and claiming that law enforcement was on the way, though he did not provide any details.
While Election Day voting in Pennsylvania has largely proceeded smoothly, with a few counties reporting issues with ballot tabulators, a senior official at the federal cybersecurity agency has stated that there is no evidence of widespread fraud in the state.
As the nation grapples with the ongoing political tensions and the threat of violence, the charges against Gregory Mitzel serve as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining a peaceful and secure democratic process.
