PM Modi to visit Ukraine amid ongoing conflict, first trip since war began

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Ukraine soon.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced today that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine soon. Further details of the upcoming trip will be shared later.

Several media reports indicate PM Modi may visit Kyiv this month in what will be his maiden visit to the country since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022.

India has taken a neutral stand on the conflict, calling for resolution through dialogue while supplying humanitarian aid to Ukraine. PM Modi had previously met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in December last year.

The Prime Minister’s visit assumes significance as Western nations have imposed sanctions on Russia for its military operations in Ukraine. Meanwhile, India has continued its long-standing trade ties with Moscow.

PM Modi’s visit is also geopolitically important as India aims to deepen cooperation with European nations while maintaining relations with its traditional ally Russia. The trip may further reinforce India’s independent foreign policy stance.

More information on the visit’s scheduling and agenda is awaited from the External Affairs Ministry later today. The visit could see talks on boosting bilateral links and reviewing the situation in Ukraine.
