PoK Unrest: Posters call for Merger with India, raising questions on Pakistan’s control

A people’s rights movement has gained momentum in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The people there have revolted against what they deem as brutality at the hands of the Pakistan police and the Pakistan administration.

Officials who are knowledgeable about this issue told CNN-News18 that the violence at recent protests and the way that demonstrations are being brutally suppressed are signs that Pakistan might begin to lose control over the part of Kashmir that it has illegally occupied for so long.

A number of instances where the inhabitants of Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot clashed with the forces appointed for law enforcement have been documented. Moreover, there were people who told CNN-News18 that posters appeared in Rawalakot asking for the merger with India.

Kashmir protestors opposed police officials as they resorted to shelling tear gas shells on protesters and hitting people in Pakistan-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. Either there in Dadyal town or at the peace protest, the gas balloons hit the crowds; in this particular case, it was peaceful protesters.

The loss of the PoJK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) will be a major blow to Pakistan’s authority over the region, which is inching closer to blending with India. According to these officials, “there are explosive (either sporadic or mass) protests in PoJK, and the army intelligence vehicle has also been destroyed.”

The officials claimed overall that the demonstrators lost control of their anger and behavior protests linked with the deaths of two underage girls. The two girls died by being baton-charged and by being exposed to tear gas.

As per the reports, ten regional districts have organized protests suggesting the violation of human rights. The real face of Pakistan, “its support for Kashmi, “was shown.

They said that the police chief of PoJK was beaten up by the resident after he ordered the police to throw tear gas shells at the peaceful protesters.

The Committee has been protesting against the ‘unfair’ levies on electricity bills and imposed a shutter-down strike involving common people across the valley for the levies in August 2023. It has also demanded that power should be given to consumers at the production cost of hydel power in PoJK.

The protest may now have spread wider, and the protesters too have included rather true issues of human rights and police brutality practiced by Pakistani police as some bad things happening to them.
