US President Joe Biden took a witty swipe at his predecessor, Donald Trump, during a construction workers event in Washington. Reflecting on Trump’s infamous suggestion to inject bleach as a potential COVID-19 treatment, Biden humorously remarked that it seemed the bleach had ended up in Trump’s much-discussed hair instead.
Addressing the audience at North America’s Building Trade Union, which has endorsed Biden in this year’s election, the Democratic president recalled Trump’s statement, saying, “Remember when he was trying to deal with COVID… He suggested just injecting a little bleach in your veins. He missed; it all went to his hair!” The remark elicited laughter from the crowd.
This light-hearted jab follows a similar comment by Biden on social media, where he shared a video clip of Trump’s bleach remark and advised, “Don’t inject bleach. And don’t vote for the guy who told you to inject bleach.”
The political rivalry between Biden and Trump has become increasingly personal as election campaigning intensifies. Trump has repeatedly mocked Biden’s stutter and referred to him as “sleepy Joe.” At the same time, Biden has targeted Trump’s financial challenges, dubbing him “broke Don” about his legal troubles, including allegations of falsifying business records to pay hush money to Stormy Daniels, a porn star.
As the election season progresses, the exchanges between the two candidates continue to showcase their contrasting styles and approaches to campaigning.
